Parking & Washrooms

There is a parking lot at Roesland in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. From there, walk down the laneway to the museum. For those with mobility concerns, please drive down the lane and park beside the turquoise cabin opposite the museum. Bike racks are also available there.

The turquoise cabin houses two modern, accessible washrooms. (There are no washrooms inside the museum.) If the washroom is locked, please ask the museum host to open it for you.

Admission by donation

$5 per person or $20/family suggested. We appreciate your generosity.

Things to know before you visit

One of the most popular ways to visit the museum is to combine it with a walk or picnic at Roesland in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Access to the museum and Roesland is from the same parking lot off South Otter Bay Road.

At low to medium tides, the trail continues to the beautiful point that protects Ella Bay at Roesland. Refer to this tide table to make sure you can get across the small gap.

For boaters, sailors or kayakers moored nearby, the museum is accessible from the national park dock on Otter Bay at Roesland. Please refer to the Google Map at the bottom of the page.

Picnic tables and benches are available in the historic orchard on the waterfront. There is NO GARBAGE disposal at Roesland; please “leave no trace” of your visit.

Our vision is to be a “great little museum” that serves our vibrant island community and its many visitors by telling local stories that connect past and present. We do this by preserving and interpreting an historic farm-resort homestead and our collection of local artifacts and archives. The museum building, a 1908 farm resort homestead, is leased from Parks Canada and surrounded by the beautiful Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.

Fruit picking

Have a taste of history—pick some fruit in the orchard surrounding our museum. Our orchard is a living example of horticultural practices from the Victorian era and the Gulf Islands’ rich history as the once top apple-producing region in British Columbia. Visit the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve website for more information.
